June 2010 saw 7.7% more people* watching TV than the same period last year, increasing to just under 3 million viewers (2,986,000) tuning into TV in any one day. And they were watching more of it too; on average individuals 4+ watched for 177 minutes per day, an increase of 9%. The average adult (15 years and over) watched even more: 188 minutes per day, an increase of 8%.
Of course, it was a World Cup month and not unexpectedly, male viewing increased by an even greater amount: +14% for all men and +19% for men aged 15 to 34.
Interestingly, viewing increased substantially over the previous World Cup in 2006, which was held in Germany, with men 15-34 up 25%."
