September TV Highlights

September sees some favourite programmes returning to our screens alongside some great new series. The big news this month is that from 30th August Virgin Media Television becomes the new name for the TV3 Group. Virgin Media One is the new name for TV3, Virgin Media Two is the new name for 3e and Virgin Media Three is the new name for be3.

Gogglebox Does TV3 Virgin Media 1 Thursday September 20th

On September 20th, to mark 20 years of independent television in Ireland, Virgin Media One will air a number of specially commissioned programmes including ‘Channel Hop: The Story of TV3’, looking back at the history of TV3 over the last two decades through the eyes of some of the stations best-loved faces. ‘Gogglebox Does TV3’ will feature some favourites giving their views on TV3 programming down through the years and ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’, a major news archive series will chronicle the news and highlights of the last 20 years

A League of Their Own on Sky One New Series starts Thursday 30th August at 9pm

Jack Whitehall may have called time on six years of A League of Their Own laughs, but fear not, Sky One has a super sub in store. Funnyman Romesh Ranganathan steps up to the spot, joining the James, Jamie and Freddie dream team for the 13th innings of the hit show. And let’s hope he knows the madness he’s letting himself in for, because this series’ tasks, challenges and trivia are as looney and outlandish as ever.

Mother’s Day on RTE One Sunday 2nd September at 9.30pm

The story of two mothers on either side of the Irish Sea for whom the Warrington Bombing had a profound, life-changing impact. The drama focuses on the lives of the two ordinary women  who are brought together in the wake of the tragedy. Starring Vicky McClure, Anna Maxwell Martin, Daniel Mays and David Wilmot. A BBC production in association with RTÉ.

MasterChef Australia on W from Wednesday 29th August at 7pm

The incredibly popular version of the cookery challenge show returns for a UK premiere series on W. Judges Gary Mehigan, George Calombaris and Matt Preston all return, alongside contestant mentor, Shannon Bennet. The series features more Pressure Tests, Elimination Challenges, Mystery Box, Invention Tests and guest chefs including Nigella Lawson and Gordon Ramsay, as the toughest, most challenging cookery show on television keeps the heat in the kitchen at scolding

The Great British Bake Off on Channel 4 from Tuesday 28th August at 8pm

Everyone’s favourite baking show- The Great British Bake Off is returning to our screens in late August, following a successful series in 2017 starring new judge Prue Leith and new hosts Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig. The class of 2018 have already been revealted – and they include a banker, a blood courier and a DJ.

The X Factor Virgin Media One from Saturday 1st September at 8pm

The search for a new music superstar gets underway as The X Factor returns to Virgin Media One. With a brand-new panel including Robbie Williams, Ayda Williams and Louis Tomlinson joining music mogul Simon Cowell as judges.
Returning as host is Mr Saturday Night, Dermot O’Leary, who will be on hand to guide viewers and contestants alike through their X Factor journey, providing them with a word of advice or a much-needed hug as the contestants perform in front of the judging panel. Naturally, you can expect the usual mix of no-hopers, sob stories and determined divas.
