Digital Switchover – Oct 24th

Ireland’s old analogue TV network is switching off on October 24th 2012. This will mean that anyone viewing TV from October 25th onwards will do so via a digital system.  Currently 84% of Irish TV viewers watch TV via digital systems but 17% will have to make the switch over the next few months.  There are a number of options available via Digital

  This is the Irish digital service and is a subsidiary of RTE, there is a one off fee for buying the box and getting set up and then the service is free.

  Another system that is available is Freesat – again, like Saorview there is a one off fee for the box and after that the service is free. Users of this service will be able to access over 150 TV and Radio channels however the Irish channels are not available on this system.

 The Sky system is a paid for service and offers up to xxx channels to its customers depending on the package they choose. This is a digital service and anyone who is currently a customer of Sky Ireland does not need to do anything ahead of October 24th.
