TV Industry Optimistic about 2018 Revenue

TV commands almost a quarter of the estimated €1b total advertising spend in the Republic.

In a challenging 2017 advertising market, television remained a key platform for advertisers which is reflected in total revenue of €235m across Television and Broadcaster Video On Demand (-3.5% vs. 2016).  2017 was buoyed by a strong H2, which is carrying through H1 2018 with growth in the region of 4-5%. This revenue growth, coupled with an increase in commercial viewing (Adults 15+) of +3% across Jan-May 2018 v’s Jan – May 2017, gives rise to plenty of optimism in 2018 for the TV & BVOD market.

The average Irish adult viewed for 3 hours 10 mins every day, 87%* of this viewing to live (as broadcast) TV and 13%* of viewing  timeshifted.  Commercial TV is reaching an average of 82% of Irish adults each week (Jan-May 2018).

Against a continuing backdrop of trust issues in non-traditional media, Television is continuing to deliver on the key pillars of trust and scale.
